Many people start the smoking habit when they are in their teen/young adult years. Many teens want to be a “rebel” and will decide to smoke to look cool. They think they will look “cool” to their peers when in fact they hurting themselves with a smoking addiction. Another reason a younger person will begin smoking is peer pressure. With peer pressure, the teen/young adult wants to smoke to be a part of the crowd because “everyone” is smoking. Another reason why a person will pick up smoking is a parent or a person the younger person idolizes smokes. They feel as though if this person smokes, then it is ok to smoke. These reasons are why almost a million young people begin to smoke each year.
Once the younger person begins to smoke, they feel satisfied physically and mentally while smoking. Through the years, that effect does not happen anymore and this person will smoke more to feel the effects of smoking that they used to feel. If the person decides to quit, the nicotine withdrawal effect can be so intense that the person will decide to keep smoking.
So what can you do if you want to quit smoking? Make a conscious decision to stay strong through nicotine withdrawal. Devise a plan on how to deal with nicotine addiction by talking with your doctor about smoking cessation. You can beat nicotine addiction no matter how many years you have smoked cigarettes. The important thing about this journey is to quit smoking forever.
